Chandigarh : The state Congress today sought the resignation of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and DGP Sumedh Saini for mishandling the sacrilege row. Various Congress leaders trashed the ‘foreign hand’ theory of the state police and accused the SAD of resorting to cheap politics.
Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh said the FIR registered against unidentified policemen for the killing of two protesters was an eyewash aimed at protecting the guilty.
He alleged Director General of Police Sumedh Saini was trying to protect the guilty policemen, who were his favourites. “Otherwise why will you not name the guilty when everybody knew who they were?” he said. Amarinder said ultimately some junior policemen would be implicated in the killings.
Congress spokesperson Sukhpal Singh Khaira said in order to escape the wrath of protesters, the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal committed yet another error of concocting the story of foreign involvement in the desecration of ‘birs’.
He said ADGP IPS Sahota released audios of two callers from Australia and Dubai, alleging their hand in the desecration of the ‘bir’. But both the alleged callers Sukhjit Singh of Australia and Hardip Singh of Dubai have debunked the story of the police. Meanwhile, villagers, panches and ex-sarpanches of Panjgraian Khurd assembled in the gurdwara yesterday and supported the arrested brothers Rupinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh.
Chamkaur Sahib: Anandpur Sahib Member Parliament Prem Singh Chandumajra said he suspected the role of the Congress behind incidents of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib in the state.
Chandumajra who was interacting with mediapersons here today said Congress leaders never demanded any action against people responsible for such incidents and on the contrary, tried to take political mileage out of the unrest prevailing in the state.
Every small or big social organisation tried to defuse the situation in state while the Congress was “trying to fan it for its ulterior motives”, he said. “Congress leaders Shakeel Ahmed and Pratap Singh Bajwa, instead of working to bring peace in the state, were sitting in Delhi demanding the impostion of President’s rule,” he added.
