CHANDIGARH: Farmers and farm workers on Friday staged dharnas outside the residences of the ministers and other Punjab leaders as announced earlier to press for their demands, including `40,000 per acre compensation for damage of cotton crop in the Malwa belt.

Dharnas were staged outside the residence of food and supplies minister Adaish Partap Singh Kairon. In Sangrur, a dharna was staged in front of the residence of finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa despite police barricades. They picketed the Moga house of agriculture minister Tota Singh.

MARCH STOPPED
BATHINDA: Hundreds of farmers were stopped by police from marching towards Badal village at Dhunike village on Kotguru– Nandgarh road. The protesters were on their way to gherao chief minister Parkash Singh Badal’s residence. Muktsar district police also stopped hundreds of protesters at Cannu and Mithri villages. Over 150 protesters were also rounded at Ghudda on the Bathinda- Badal road.

HEAVY SECURITY
AMRITSAR: Farmers marching towards the residence of cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia were stopped by the local police. Earlier, hundreds of farmers gathered outside the office of deputy commissioner Ravi Bhagat. As they started marching towards the Green Avenue residence of the minister, police deoployed on the Old Jail road stopped them from going towards Majithia’s house.

‘NOT TAKEN SERIOUSLY’
TARN TARAN: Farmers staged a dharna outside residence of food and civil supplies minister Adesh Partap Singh Kairon at Kairon village. The protesters said the government did not take their demands seriously.

CRUCIAL MEET ON OCT 26
PATIALA: Police foiled a bid by farmer unions to gherao the house of cabinet minister Surjit Singh Rakhra. Heavy police force was deployed outside the minister’s house as also on the Nabha highway.

MANSA: Police foiled farmers’ bid to gherao the residence of Rajya Sabha MP from Sardulgarh Balwinder Singh Bhundar.

PROTEST PLAN SPOILED
PATHANKOT: Police thwarted farmers attempt to gherao houses of Pathankot MLA Ashwani Sharma and Sujanpur MLA and deputy speaker Dinesh Singh Babbu.

WOMAN DETAINED
HOSHIARPUR: An attempt by farmer to gherao residences of Sham Churasi MLA and chief parliamentary secretary Mohinder Kaur Josh was foiled by cops. Many women activists were also detained.

NEARLY 100 FARMERS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
BARNALA: Farmers moving towards the house of Sant Balvir Singh Ghunas, chief parliamentary secretary (jails, tourism, cultural affairs, archives, archaeology & museums) were detained at different places. Police detained 100 farmers in all from various places.

Washington : The Indian-American community in the US has urged the Trump administration to “fully support” India’s decision to revoke the constitutional provision that accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir and to continue to exert pressure on Pakistan to end its support to cross-border terrorism.
