Jalandhar : Giving a new turn to the investigation into the British-Indian hotelier Ranjit Singh Power’s murder, his brother Amrik Singh Power today said apart from the deceased’s UK-based friend Baldev Singh Deol, the role of some of his business partners was also suspected.

Amrik, who along with his mother Gurjit Kaur, had come from the UK to give a DNA sample of his mother, said, “The conspiracy to kill my brother Ranjit was plotted in the UK but was executed in India. I do not rule out the role of my brother’s friend Baldev behind the murder but I also suspect the role of his business partners, now residing in the UK. I have given names of the suspects to the Jalandhar police for investigation,” Amrik said.

“The DNA sample of Ranjit’s mother will now clarify if the body sent to the UK was of NRI Ranjit,” said ADCP AS Powar. The deceased’s family had also recently alleged that the DNA test and the dental records of the body in the UK proved that the body was not that of Ranjit.

The British embassy through the Indian embassy had also sent an email to the Jalandhar police asking if the DNA of dental records of Ranjit was admissible in India as evidence in the ongoing investigation. However, the police had refused to take note of the DNA report of dental records in their investigation citing that the DNA sample of mother was must to identify the body.

The NRI’s body was recovered near a dam on the Pehewa-Ambala road, 20 km from Ambala on June 1.
