Jalandhar : Three leaders of the Congress today held separate press conferences and issued similar statements, demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister and his deputy, in the wake of incidents of sacrilege incidents and the killing of two protesters in Faridkot.

Punjab Congress chief Partap Bajwa and former CM Rajinder Kaur Bhattal said instead of stepping down and taking responsibility of the incidents, Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal had made former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini a scapegoat. “The resignation of Saini is not enough. Saini was like a pistol and Sukhbir the hand who fired the shots. So, Sukhbir too has to quit to ensure peace in the state,” Bajwa said.

He and Congress spokesperson Nimisha Mehta challenged the CM to hold a Sangat Darshan and face the public. Bajwa ridiculed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his Nelson Mandela remark for Badal. “If you really like him, please take his services in the Centre and save Punjab from the turmoil,” the PPCC chief said.

Bajwa said that the third resignation should come from SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar to quell the protests and Panthic unrests. He too must take the onus of his flip-flops and playing in the hands of the Akalis. Bhattal demanded that the entire state government should quit. Nimisha Mehta said these were the most important days for businessmen, farmers and labourers. “With festive season and the work in mandis in full swing, these people have suffered major losses during the last 20 days. The CM should clarify as to how the losses would be covered.”
