CHANDIGARH: Congress deputy leader in Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday claimed that the Punjab government had appointed a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) to probe the charges against a senior superintendent of police (SSP), his senior, with a view to “delaying and deviating” the investigation into the October 14 firing incident.

Referring to additional director general of police IPS Sahota’s recently reported statement that a DSP-rank officer would investigate the police firing in Faridkot in which two Sikhs were killed, Amarinder said it was “not a simple” case of murder.

Amarinder wondered how a DSP could investigate against an SSP, who is two ranks senior to him. The former chief minister said the government appeared to be shielding the guilty.

RANA GURJIT ASKS DGP TO END ‘HALQA IN-CHARGE’ SYSTEM
CHANDIGARH: Senior Congress leader and Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjit Singh on Tuesday asked newly appointed DGP Suresh Arora to end Akali halqa incharge interference in the police department, which had “completely politicised the police functioning”. Gurjit, said as long as SHOs and area DSPs reported to Akali MLAs and halqa incharge instead of to SSPs, there would be no change in police functioning.
