KAPURTHALA: The Congress on Tuesday said that its workers will gherao the office of Kapurthala senior superintendent of police (SSP) on Friday the arrested Sikh protesters are not released within two days.
On October 23, the district police had arrested 18 Sikh protesters following the arrest of 17 people for creating a ruckus in State Gurdwara and trying to attack the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders who had come to attend a bhog ceremony.
Addressing mediapersons, Congress spokesperson Sukhpal Singh Khaira said under the pressure of the SAD government, the Kapurthala police arrested innocent Sikh youths and booked them for attempt to murder. “The Sikh youths are being forced to take the step after the police were not letting them meet a SAD leader for five minutes,” he said.
The family of one of the arrested accused, Jagdeep Singh, a resident Karhalan village, also sat on the road to demonstrate on Saturday and demanded his release.
Khaira said if the police failed to release the youths and revoke the FIR, the Congress will hold a massive protest outside the SSP office in Kapurthala on Friday.
