FEROZEPUR: Leader of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Sunil Kumar Jakhar slammed the SAD-BJP government on Friday for delay in paying compensation to cotton growers even after one month of their agitation.

In a press release issued here, he urged chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, who were busy at the Progressive Punjab Summit in Mohali, to be in the news with reputed business tycoons of the country, to address the real problems of farmers on priority.

He also alleged that officials, in connivance with influential people from the ruling party, have been indulging in unfair practices in the distribution of compensation and even those farmers, who have never sown cotton, have also been getting compensation under political patronage.

He said that the SAD-BJP government was distributing cheques as per its convenience in the presence of political representatives of that particular area, which, he said, was unfair. He demanded an enquiry into the distribution of compensation and demanded that a committee of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha should be set up to supervise the distribution of cheques.
