SIRHIND (FATEHGARH SAHIB): Peoples Party of Punjab (PPP) president Manpreet Singh Badal on Sunday took a dig at the ruling SAD, saying the Badal government had demoralised the people and also the state police.
“During the last three weeks of unrest in Punjab, due to repeated sacrilege incidents of Guru Granth Sahib, the government could not muster courage to answer the public,” Manpreet said, calling the SAD government a “government of cowards”.
“People need to turn the tide in 2017 (assembly polls) if they want a better life,” Manpreet said while addressing a gathering to celebrate the birth anniversary of Maharishi Valmiki.
The PPP leader also slammed chief minister Parkash Singh Badal for skipping absence former SAD president Fateh Singh’s death anniversary.
“Even if they (Badal government) do not quit, they are left with only a year,” Manpreet added.The PPP leader also rejected the credibility of the Justice Zora Singh (retd) commission in investigation the sacrilege incidents in the state, saying he (Zora) was a “close friend of the CM” and would favour the government.
‘MORE THE MERRIER’
Talking about the assembly elections in 2017, Manpreet said he will disclose his party’s strategy closer to the elections. “The more the merrier, so let AAP come and contest in Punjab,” he said, without revealing whether his party would forge an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party.
