Chandigarh : Taking a strong exception to the statement of the SAD (A) president Simranjit Singh Mann demanding that issue of Khalistan should be on the agenda of the proposed “Sarbat Khalsa”, the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party reacted strongly on Sunday demanding action against Mann.
In separate statements issued on Sunday while BJP president Kamal Sharma condemned Mann in strongest terms for his consistent anti national tirade, Congress MP from Ludhiana Ravneet Singh Bittu launched a scathing attack on Mann stating that there were some anti national forces working behind the brains of Mann.
In a strongly-worded statement BJP chief Sharma termed the utterances of Mann as a desperate attempt of a “spent force” to make himself relevant by disturbing the peace of Punjab just to get political mileage. He said BJP has no objection in holding of “Sarbat Khalsa” or any other platform deemed fit by Sikh organizations to discuss and resolve their religious affairs but no one should be allowed to vitiate the peace, harmony and brotherhood of Punjabis. “Punjab has returned to normalcy after so many sacrifices made by the people during the black era of terrorism and BJP will not allow Mann to again push the state towards shadows of darkness”, said he .
Joining the issue Bittu, in a separate statement said Congress was averse to the raising of the issue of Khalistan in Sarbat khalsa. “ Instead there are more important Sikh issues which can be discussed. This is an attempt by the veteran leader to derail the peace and harmony in the state once again. Earlier also he along with certain radical groups were looking for an opportunity to fight back and take the Punjab into dark days of terrorism again. We will not let this happen again at any cost,” mentioned Bittu.
