CHANDIGARH: Congress deputy leader in Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday questioned the “limited” scope of the CBI inquiry ordered by the Punjab government into the incidents of sacrilege.

Amarinder said the state government is not sincere about finding out the complete truth and “given the limited scope of the inquiry, appears more keen to bide time”. The former chief minister said the important issue of police firing on peaceful protesters that led to the death of two men had deliberately been kept out of the inquiry purview.

“The inquiry will not be complete unless the issue of police firing is included in the terms of reference,” he said. Amarinder added that otherwise, people would believe, and rightly so, that the state government was not only trying to bide time, but also to protect the cops.
