Bains brothers released after court intervention

LUDHIANA: Eventually, after the interference of the local court, the police officials have accepted the bail pleas of Independent MLAs Balwinder Singh Bains, Simarjit Singh Bains and their 27 supporters on Monday. The additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP Headquarters) Sukhpal Singh Khaira has accepted the bail bonds and issued orders to release them.

Bains brothers were behind the bars since October 21 and October 22, respectively.

Earlier, the police have denied giving bail to Bains brothers and their supporters asking them to produce bail bond of `1 lakh and guarantee of a gazetted officer.

Bains brothers moved to the Punjab and Haryana high court. The high court has asked them to go to the session court for bail.

On Monday, the court has directed the police officials to accept the bail bonds and to abolish the condition of bringing the guarantee of a gazetted officer. Following the orders, the police officials have accepted the bail applications.

It is pertinent to mention that Balwinder Singh Bains along with his supporters was arrested by police on October 21 from Chandigarh, when they were moving towards Chandigarh to gherao the chief minister’s residence against incidents of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib. The police had booked Simarjit Singh Bains for attacking the police officials and creating hurdles in their government duty, who had managed to reach Chandigarh. The police had arrested him on October 22 from his house at Kot Mangal Singh.

He was bailed out on October 25 in case of attacking police officials and creating hurdles in their government duty, as he stepped out from the jail, the police had again arrested him under section 107/151 of the CrPC and sent him to jail again.

On October 26, the police had arrested Simarjit Bains’ son Ajaypreet Singh Bains from the mini-secretariat along with 10 supporters, including six women under section 107/151.
