Jalandhar : Congress spokesperson Sukhpal Khaira today announced to gherao Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal during his scheduled visit at the conclusion of Surjit Hockey Tournament in Jalandhar on November 5.

Khaira has been demanding the release of 18 Sikh youths arrested for opposing Akali leaders under Sections 307 and 295-A of the IPC in Kapurthala from outside the state gurdwara on October 23. “Although we had given sufficient time to the Kapurthala police to rectify their vindictive attitude towards the 18 Sikh youths to please their political masters, it appears they have learnt no lesson. There was no injury caused to anyone. Neither has there been any medico-legal report (MLR) nor has any Akali leader been hospitalised, yet the police enforced harsh sections,” he said.

Khaira also justified the incident of assault by Sikh protesters on SGPC member Paramjit Singh Raipur. “The anger of the agitators is justified as SGPC members have acted as puppets of the SAD and allowed politicisation of the committee to the hilt. Sentiments of the Sikh community across the globe have been badly hurt due to their moves,” he said.
