CHANDIGARH: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa on Sunday welcomed the Bihar assembly election results, saying “the people of Bihar have defeated the divisive forces headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi”.

In a statement here, Bajwa complemented Congress vicepresident Rahul Gandhi “for his political acumen and foresight to forge a strategic alliance of secular forces ahead of polls”.

Also accusing BJP president Amit Shah of spreading the politics of hate, Bajwa said: “Shah’s statement that the victory of secular forces would lead to fireworks in Pakistan is reflective of his warped mindset and the people of Bihar have given him a befitting rebuttal.”

Lok Sabha deputy speaker Capt Amarinder Singh, in a separate statement, said the Bihar poll result would also have a decisive impact on Punjab and would set the tone for “defeat of divisive forces in the state in the assembly elections which are not very far”.
