BATHINDA: Reacting to the alleged statement by Union minister for food processing industries and Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal in which she had alleged that HS Phoolka did not represent victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in the Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar cases in courts, the noted lawyer on Thursday said he would file a defamation case against her.
Addressing a press conference here, Phoolka claimed that the Union minister had alleged that he neither represented riots victims in courts nor did he argue in courts in these cases, but stood in front of the media outside the courts to take credit. Phoolka asked Harsimrat if he did not argue cases for the victims, then she should tell people as to who argued for them.
Phoolka produced court orders in the Tytler case to show that he appeared for riot victim Lakhvinder Kaur, filed a protest petition and argued the case. He also produced the orders in the Sajjan Kumar case in the high court to show that he is representing victims in the case.
Harsimrat’s statement came after Phoolka on Sunday had demanded her resignation as Union minister, alleging that the NDA government in December 2014 had given the clean chit to Tytler.
Phoolka said that instead of replying as to why the NDA government gave the clean chit to Tytler, Harsimrat was trying to divert attention from the issue. Phoolka claimed that neither he in his name nor in the name of juniors charged fee in the riots cases, saying that the minister should disclose the names of such juniors.
