FEROZEPUR: Leader of Congress legislature party (CLP) Sunil Kumar Jakhar said here on Thursday that Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal must quit to make Punjab a peaceful and prosperous state.

Making this demand in a press release issued here, Jakhar expressed concern over the present situation in the state for the past two months.

He said the SAD-BJP government in the state had failed on every front, be it law and order, farming or business, so, it has lost the moral right to rule the state. Lambasting the surprise visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Ferozepur on Diwali without any prior announcement, Jakhar termed the visit a mockery of the state of mind of the people, who are greatly upset over the continuous incidents of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib.

He said that this kind of surprise visit of the Prime Minister amounted to insult of the chief minister and his entire government, as the PM did not inform the government about his visit in advance. “The PM again proved that he was not concerned with the people of Punjab and ignored the present situation by coming silently to the state,” Jakhar added.

Jakhar said that people of the state were in great anguish over incidents of sacrilege and farmers are in distress due to crop losses and, instead of establishing a link with the people at this juncture, the so-called pro-people SAD leaders of the state have been avoiding to face the people.
