CHANDIGARH: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi would lead a 21-member party delegation to President Pranab Mukherjee on November 19 to demand a timebound probe by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court into the “unprovoked” police firing on peaceful protesters in which two persons were killed and 37 injured at Behbal Kalan village in Faridkot district last month.

During his recent visit to the families of police firing victims Gurmit Singh and Krishan Bhagwan Singh, Rahul had promised to take up the case at the highest level.

State party chief Partap Singh Bajwa said the delegation would include party general secretary and secretary incharge of Punjab affairs Shakeel Ahmad, Harish Chaudhary, deputy leader of the party in the Lok Sabha Captain Amarinder Singh, Bajwa himself, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Sunil Jakhar, former PPCC presidents and all sitting Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members from Punjab.

Bajwa said the FIR registered in the case was a ‘blind’ one as no accused responsible for the firing had been named.
