LUDHIANA: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday said it won’t enter into alliance with any party for the 2017 assembly elections in Punjab.

AAP’s Punjab convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur addressing a gathering at the party office in Ludhiana on Monday.

“We won’t join hands any party, be it the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress or Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). Also, we won’t allow any criminal, corrupt and characterless individual to enter the party,” said Punjab AAP convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur after paying tributes to Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha here.

On AAP’s support to Nitish Kumar and the Congress in Bihar polls, Chhotepur said: “It’s altogether a different scenario in Punjab. There is no possibility of any grand alliance here.”

Regarding party’s poll preparations, Chhotepur said: “AAP was lying low to focus on organisational set up. We will soon announce the programs for Punjab.”

On setback to the party’s image following rebellion that resulted in suspension of MPs Harinder Singh Khalsa and Dharamvir Gandhi and allegations levelled against Bhagwant Mann, Chhotepur said, “AAP is based upon ideologies and is above individual interests. Thus, indiscipline is unacceptable. Whereas the Bhagwant Mann case is concerned, it was a false propaganda against him.”

Punjab is facing countless problems such as corruption, suicides by farmers, drug addiction, unemployment, poverty and poor condition of industry, said Chhotepur, adding that the government has power but it has miserably failed on all fronts.

With AAP leader from Ludhiana HS Phoolka resigning, the party’s activities in constituency have taken a hit. In a move to rejuvenate the local unit, Chhotepur inaugurated a new party office at BRS Nagar.

AAP leaders such as Durgesh Pathak Col CM Lakhanpal (retd) and Kapil Bhardwaj were present on the occasion.

Earlier, an exhibition highlighting various events in the life of Kartar Singh Sarabha was organised.
