Amritsar : Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Anil Shastri requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to spend more time in the country instead of touring foreign countries as he was elected by the people of this country.

“He (Modi) won due to the votes of poor people of this country. I appeal to him to spare more time for India and Indians,” he said. Shastri said during the past one-and-a-half year of Modi government, he has delivered nothing except speeches.

He said the PM should start delivering on the promises he made to the people before elections or else he would not be able to complete his next three-and-a-half years.

Talking about Punjab, he held Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal responsible for the present agrarian and political crisis in the state.

He said the Badal government had failed on every front. He said the Congress would certainly form a government in Punjab and there was a need for party workers to get united for the same.

Shastri visited the holy city and was on way to Islamabad in Pakistan to attend a conference on the ‘Rising influence of China in South Asia region’. Besides visiting the Golden Temple, he also interacted with Congress leaders and workers at the Congress office here.
