CHANDIGARH: Terming the Punjab cabinet’s move to fill vacant government posts as a “belated decision”, People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) chief Manpreet Singh Badal on Friday urged chief minister Parkash Singh Badal to come out with the resource mobilisation needed to implement decisions such as providing more than 1 lakh jobs.

“None would oppose the reopening of recruitment or social security pension being doubled. But, as the government is entering its last year, people have the right to know about the source of huge resource mobilisation needed for this purpose,” Manpreet asked, pointing out the heavy debt burden on the state.

He said the government had earlier tried to raise `10,000 crore as loan from commercial banks.

“With this pitiable situation, it is abundantly clear that this government is out of resources and has no concern for financial aspects,” he added.

The former finance minister said the state government had been running into arrears even on the payment of old-age and widow pension, whose amount was a meagre `250 per month. State government employees are still to get the last instalment of the dearness allowance dues, he claimed.
