Patiala : Not agreeing with his son and Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal who termed the Congress anti-national, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said he would never term it anti-national, but the party had adopted a divide-and-rule policy on communal lines.
He said he was open to an all-party meeting on the “growing radical threat” only if the Opposition showed some positive concern.
Interacting with the media, Badal alleged: “The entire Akali leadership is trying to ensure that peace prevails in Punjab, but the Congress is instead hatching conspiracies to create trouble.”
He said the sacrilege incidents had tormented the psyche of every human being.
Members of the Technical Services Union held a protest dharna and met Badal to press for their demands.
On agrarian crisis
The Chief Minister said he had urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take bold initiatives to safeguard the interests of the farmers. Badal said to help the farmers affected by crop loss in the cotton belt of the state, the Punjab government had given them a compensation worth Rs640 crore besides paying Rs64 crore to farm labourers.
