CHANDIGARH: Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday questioned Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal’s locus standi (legal standing) for the claims that the Swiss authorities would soon be sharing his (Amarinder’s) and his family’s bank account details with the Union government.

Seeking a clarification from the Centre on Sukhbir’s claims, Amarinder said the deputy CM was not part of the Union government. “Has he assumed some extra-constitutional role much above the Prime Minister, foreign minister or the finance minister?” he asked.

The former chief minister said Sukhbir’s statement, although devoid of any logic or substance, only vindicated his stand that the BJP-led government at the Centre was trying to help and bail out its beleaguered partner (Shiromani Akali Dal) in Punjab by raking up an issue which did not exist.

“I am grateful to the deputy CM for spilling the beans, mindfully or inadvertently, and vindicating my stand that the BJP-led Union government, in connivance with the Akalis, is trying to defame me. Otherwise, how would Sukhbir know what was going on between two countries at the sovereign and diplomatic levels, if at all anything was actually happening,” added Amarinder.
