Reacting to Akali leaders’ statement asking Captain Amarinder Singh to resign and face a probe for purported “Swiss accounts” in the name of his wife and son, Congress leaders said the Akalis were frustrated over their declining popularity against the rising mass support for the Congress and Amarinder.
In a joint statement, senior party leaders and legislators Sukhjinder Randhawa, Rana Gurjeet Singh, Kewal Singh Dhillon, Rana KP Singh and Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria stated that instead of asking Amarinder to quit, they (Akalis) should advise their leader, chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, to retire in the interests of Punjab.
“Let us hold a referendum and see whom do the people of Punjab consider most corrupt: Amarinder or the Badals who have accumulated unaccounted wealth worth billions of rupees,” they said.
