Chandigarh: Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal on Thursday hailed part vice-president Rahul Gandhi for showing “farsightedness” in announcing a cohesive Punjab Congress unit.

In a statement issued here, Bhattal praised the High command’s choice in Capt Amarinder singh as new president of state unit. “ It is heartening to note High command realising that the time demanded a seasoned leader to steer the Congress boat to shores in 2017. The youthful energy has been combined with veterans’ experience to give formidable thrust to the Punjab state unit”, she observed.

Bhattal said in the coming days, a united Congress would take on the Akalis and expose their misrule before the people. The Congress, which is sure to form the next government in Punjab , would put economy back on the track, give employment to youth and help distressed farmers, she added.

About Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) prospects in state Bhattal said people had voted in their favour in 2014 hoping that the party would work for the benefit of common man with new ideology. “But people’s hopes have been belied.
