Bathinda : Adorning the role of a reformist in perhaps his last political battle before hanging his boots, PPCC president Capt Amarinder Singh, in an exclusive interview to The Tribune on eve of his coronation, said his biggest concern remained ensuring “meaningful education” for the youth to get them jobs and “delivering” on the promises during the final term as president of the state unit.
“I realised at least one generation had lost out on good careers because of abysmally poor education system. A majority of them is unemployed. Negligible pass percentage at the class XII level, particularly in science streams at government schools, reflects the sorry state of affairs.”
“It would be a Herculean task to redeem the situation in the state. The Akalis have destroyed Punjab almost beyond redemption,” he said, while referring to the debt figures of over Rs 1.25 lakh crore.
On Congress men participating in the Sarbat Khalsa rally, he said: “Our leaders went in personal capacity as Sikhs... Sukhbir played a big role in misdirecting the movement.”
