Chandigarh: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh on Friday demanded the grounding of all buses and also called for rigorous tests of the drivers driving these buses to check as to why they were causing so many fatal accidents so frequently, before they can again be allowed to take to the wheels. Reacting to yet another fatal accident, in which a ten-year old girl was killed, Capt Amarinder said: “As an immediate step all the buses must be grounded and checked and the drivers subjected to rigorous medical tests to find out why only they were responsible for so many accidents”.

Former Chief Minister observed that the drivers operating the buses owned by the Akali leaders were law unto themselves. “They do not give a damn to anyone including the police or the transport officials,” he pointed out, while adding that ‘nobody dares check their documents whether they have valid driving licences, whether they are visually, mentally and physically fit to drive and how many of them are under the influence of alcohol and drugs while driving.” “We cannot let them kill people so wantonly and then buy peace with the victims’ kin,” he said.
