AMRITSAR: Punjab Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Charanjit Singh Channi has said that the Punjab and Haryana High Court should take suomotu notice of all recent fatal accident in Punjab that involved private buses of the ruling Badal family and its close associates.

State CLP leader Charanjit Singh Channi (left) meeting the father of accident victim Gurpreet Kaur in Amritsar on Saturday.

Citing a recent case in which a girl (12) girl was crushed under the wheels of a New Deep company bus near Makhu in Ferozepur district, Channi said these buses were in the hands of reckless drivers shielded by the men in power.

“The families of the victims are threatened not to pursue the case against the bus driver or the transport company. The only option they have is to reach a compromise with the company and accept whatever little compensation it offers,” the state CLP leader claimed. Referring to the Makhu incident, he said the family of victim Gurpreet Kaur was also being forced by the Akali leaders to reach a compromise with bus owner Hardeep Singh “Dimpy” Dhillon, a SAD leader from Gidderbaha and a confidant of the Badal family.

Channi met Gurpreet Kaur’s father, Palwinder Singh of Dayalpura village in Tarn Taran district, on Saturday at Circuit House here. Bus driver Pardeep Singh is charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder but Palwinder Singh wants a case of murder against him.

Channi also demanded that all New Deep company buses be taken off road. “The drivers of the Akali companies aren’t afraid of police or threatening the families of their victims. The high court should take suo-motu notice,” Channi added.

MEETS ABOHAR ATTACK SURVIVOR
Channi also met Gurjant Singh, survivor of the Abohar incident in which supporters of Akali leader and liquor baron Shiv Lal Doda chopped off the limbs of two men at his farmhouse a few days ago. The state CLP leader sought the arrest of Doda and his nephew Amit, the main accused in the Abohar case.
