CHANDIGARH: Accusing the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) of patronising liquor baron Shiv Lal Doda, Congress leader Sunil Jakhar on Sunday sought the cooperation of all parties for demanding a CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) probe, monitored by a Punjab and High Court judge, into the murder of a Dalit man (27) whose limbs were chopped off by Doda’s alleged henchmen in Abohar..

Addressing the media here, the Abohar legislator said he would approach other parties — including SAD ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) — to seek their support for a CBI probe. “I must thank the BJP for showing courage to call a spade a spade. Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal described it as a gang war but Union minister Vijay Sampla refused to accept it and said it was a case of atrocity against Dalits,” he said.

Showing pictures to claim that the SAD office in Abohar was run from a liquor wholesale shop, he said: “The shop belongs to Shiv Lal Doda and the Shiromani Akali Dal sign is hung outside.” He also produced the private news channel video clip in which injured Gurjant Singh had said on his way to hospital that he saw threat to his life from Doda.

“They have suspended SHO (station house officer) concerned Harinder Singh Chameli on frivolous charges of dereliction of duty, whereas he ran a torture chamber from the farmhouse. The arrest of Shiv Lal’s nephew, Amit Doda, is mere eyewash. They (the accused) have been made state guests by the police. We have no faith in police investigation into the Abohar murder case,” said Jakhar.
