Chandigarh : In the Abohar murder case, senior Congress leader and former CLP leader in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Sunil Jakhar, today demanded an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

He said that the Punjab Police were supporting the accused and it would be useless to expect the state police to do justice in the case.

He said that the way the police had handled the entire episode makes it pretty clear that the police were favouring the accused and harassing the relatives of the victims.

He alleged that the police arrested the relatives of the victims just to pressurise them to reach a compromise.

He alleged that the accused enjoyed the patronage of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal. In such a scenario, only a CBI inquiry by a sitting judge can deliver justice and nail the accused, he said.

He also said that the Congress would give an open call to all the political parties to form a common platform to fight the ruling party with regard to this incident. He said they would not mind if the BJP is ready to be part of the common platform.

He also alleged that Doda was a habitual offender and was facing criminal and civil cases in Rajasthan, Delhi and Haryana.
