QADIAN (GURDASPUR): Former Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Partap Singh Bajwa has condemned the SAD-BJP government for burdening the state exchequer under a debt of over `1.25 lakh crore in its nine-year regime, while the Congress had left the state exchequer under a total of `58,000-crore debt in 2007.
Bajwa, while speaking to the media at his residence in Qadian on Saturday, said the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) had declared the “Sangat Darshan” programme of Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal unconstitutional. Bajwa asked Badal to explain certain points before holding his three-day programme in Qadian assembly constituency from January 3 to 5.
Bajwa asked Badal when he would pay off the `5,500 crore outstanding payment of paddy crop procured by the commission agents from the farmers in the state. He asked when Badal would clear the arrears of sugarcane crop supplied by farmers to the various sugarmills during the year 2014-15.
Bajwa questioned Badal if it was not an exploitation of farmers that the traders procured basmati 1121 variety at `1500 to 1700 per quintal and after a few days its market price rose to `2500-2700 per quintal. he questioned Badal when his government would pay the compensation against the damage to wheat crop by untimely rains in 2015.
He said the Milkfed of Punjab was offering lower price of milk than the Amul Dairy of Gujarat then how the Badal government would claim to be pro-farmers.
Bajwa also pointed out that he had got sanctioned `250 crore from the Dr Manmohan Singh-led UPA government at the Centre in 2013 for rail connectivity between Qadian and Beas, but the state government had failed to acquire land for the said project.
Bajwa said Badal’s “Sangar Darshan” programme aimed at retaining power in the next elections to state assembly in 2017 by allegedly ‘squandering tax payers’ money among the Akali sarpanches, promoting corruption among them in the name of local development.
