Chandigarh : Punjab Congress Legislature Party leader Charanjit Singh Channi on Saturday blamed intelligence failure for terrorist attack on strategic airbase at Pathankot and said the state police too should share the blame.

He said no serious notice seemed to have been taken after an officer of the level of Superintendent of Police was waylaid and his vehicle with blue beacon was snatched by the terrorists in Army fatigue. He expressed surprise that the police failed to act by way of nabbing the terrorists after this serious incident 24 hours before the attack.

He lashed out at Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal who also holds the home department for not learning any lessons from Dinanagar attack in the same area just about six months back. At that time, it was Dinanagar police station that was attacked and this time, a strategic airbase had been targeted.

He questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi too who used to boast of his 56-inch chest before the Lok Sabha elections while blaming the UPA government for attacks from across the border. He pointed out that terrorists had struck within days of Modi’s high-level drama of making unscheduled stop at Lahore to wish his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif on his birthday. He said while Modi was sharing cake with Sharif, the terrorists were planning to launch attack on India from that soil.
