Barnala MLA Kewal Dhillon, who is a close aide of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Captain Amarinder Singh and is also the in-charge of the Maghi Mela rally, while camping at residence of another Amarinder’s confidant and Guruharsahai MLA Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi at Ferozepur, is busy making arrangements to fetch maximum party workers from the 33 assembly segments of the Malwa region to use the Maghi conference as the ‘spring board’ to formally launch the election campaign for 2017 polls.
“Earlier SAD had earmarked a site for their rally in 21 acres, but when they came to know that Congress has selected a site for the rally in 31 acres, they are eyeing a site in 50 acres. Meanwhile, APP has selected a site for their rally to be addressed by their party chief and Delhi chief minister Arwind Khejriwal in 11 acres,” revealed sources.
Talking to HT, Dhillon acknowledged that it being the last Maghi Mela rally before the next state polls, they were fully geared up to fetch maximum workers at the rally to motivate them to ‘up their sleeves’ for the 2017 poll battle.
“We are covering each and every village of the region to get party workers reach the venue so that message of party leadership from the dias at Maghi Mela may reach the electorate in their respective areas,” said Dhillon.
“SAD-BJP rally will be entirely government-backed gathering, while the participants at our rally will the genuine party workers and common people who will uproot the Akalis-BJP alliance in Punjab in next polls,” claimed Dhillon, adding that AAP had lost its credibility.
