Ludhiana : Former state Congress chief Partap Bajwa has demanded a probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the role of the state police in the wake of the Pathankot terrorist attack.
He alleged that there was a nexus between the state police and the drug mafia. The Gurdaspur SP’s role should be probed thoroughly by the NIA. “The probe is necessary to identify black sheep in the police force,” he added.
Demanding the dismissal of the state government, he claimed even the Akali Dal’s coalition partner BJP had admitted to the alleged links of the SAD with the drug mafia.
Bajwa said the chain of command in the police force needed to be restored. Political interference in police postings must also stop, he added.
Bajwa accused Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal of being insensitive. "While the Pathankot airbase was under attack, Badal was busy holding Sangat Darshan," he said.
No lessons learnt: Jakhar
Chandigarh: Senior Congress leader Sunil Jakhar today said Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal could not absolve himself of the responsibility in the aftermath of the Pathankot terror attack.
“The Punjab government is equally responsible for the death of seven security personnel in the attack. After Dinanagar, the Home Minister had talked about strengthening and modernising the police force, but nothing happened on ground. The government failed to learn from its mistakes,” said Jakhar.
Citing announcements by the Deputy CM to provide Rs 100 crore for modernisation of the police force, he claimed that the government was not doing enough due to which Punjab was bearing the burnt of the terror from across the border.
