‘Cong revamp to focus on unity’

New Delhi : The Congress has initiated the process for the reconstitution of the new Punjab Congress Committee with the objective of cementing the party unity in the election-bound state.

State Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh is camping in Delhi to meet party vice-president Rahul Gandhi for preliminary discussions on the issue. Party sources said a meeting between the two was likely on January 11.

Rahul was expected to return from his European holiday tonight after which his first task would be to revamp the Punjab Congress unit.

Party general secretary and Punjab affairs in charge Shakeel Ahmad said, “The key objective of the reconstitution of the Punjab Congress will be the cementing of the party unity. We will be conscious of the fact that heartburns need to be avoided, the recently found unity preserved and all leaders given their due space.”

The party has already initiated the exercise of seeking feedbacks on the reconstitution process from all senior leaders of the state. A message has been sent out to Punjab party leaders to share their wish list with the party general secretary.

Ahmad said there would be a lot of space for accommodation of everyone’s talents.
