MANSA: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann on Saturday said that suspended MPs Dharamvira Gandhi and Harinder Singh Khalsa would not be invited to the Maghi Mela rally at Muktsar on January 14. With a view to mobilising the public for the rally, Mann attended three meetings in Mansa district.

AAP leader and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann addressing a gathering at a village in Mansa on Saturday.

The AAP had a put up a united face at the Maghi Mela rally held last year as all four MPs were present. “The MPs (Gandhi and Khalsa) have been suspended on disciplinary grounds and will not be invited to the rally,” Mann said. Addressing a gathering at Boha village, Mann announced that the rally would be historic as important announcements would be made by Delhi chief minister and party convener Arvind Kejriwal, who would participate in it for the first time. But, he refrained from saying whether the party would announce its chief ministerial candidate there. “We will announce the blueprint of our action plan. I am not sure whether naming the CM candidate for the assembly elections will be done there.”

Mann criticised state Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh for “making false promises” by holding a gutka at his Bathinda rally. “It seems he has realised that people have lost faith in him after his performance in his previous term, which compelled him to take the oath.” Mann alleged that both the Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal are handin-glove with each other.

In a lighter vein, Mann advised the party supporters to board the buses sent by the Akali Dal and Congress to reach the rally venue in Muktsar. “The Akalis and Congress leaders will arrange buses to ferry people for their rallies. I suggest you board those buses to reach Muktsar but attend our rally,” he said.

Slamming the state government, Mann said, “Bankruptcy has compelled the government to mortgage even mental asylums, but after their historic loss in the assembly elections, shocked SAD leaders will be admitted to the newly constructed mental asylums.”

Mann also accused an Akali leader from Gurdaspur of his complicity in the recent terrorist attack in Pathankot. “We have approached Union home minister Rajnath Singh and conveyed to him about the Akali leader who was complicit in the attack.”
