KHADOOR SAHIB BYPOLL ON FEB 13; CODE IN PLACE

CHANDIGARH: The bypoll to the Khadoor Sahib assembly seat in Tarn Taran district will be held on February 13, the Election Commission of India announced on Tuesday. With it, the model code of conduct also comes into force in the district.

The seat fell vacant after Congress MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki resigned in protest against sacrilege incidents last year.

Punjab’s chief electoral office spokesman said the last date for filing the nominations has been fixed as January 27. The scrutiny of papers would be done on January 28 and the last date for withdrawing the nominations is January 30, said the spokesman.

The counting of votes would be done on February 16 and the electoral process would conclude on February 18.

The detailed instructions have also been issued to the speaker, deputy speaker, ministers, MLAs, heads of the departments and others for compliance of the poll code, he added.
