Amritsar : Manpreet Singh Badal, who has recently merged his People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) with the Congress, has said it was an unconditional pact devoid of any post or position for him or any of his supporters. Congress workers today gave him a rousing welcome during his maiden visit to the holy city. He paid obeisance at the Golden Temple, Durgiana Mandir and Jallianwala Bagh.

Later, he addressed the media at the Congress office in presence of its rural president Gurjeet Singh Aujla, urban president Rajiv Bhagat, National SC Commission vice-chairman Raj Kumar Verka and supporters.

Manpreet said: “We failed in 2012 as we didn’t have a sound platform to launch and implement our programme. Now, we have got an opportunity to pursue our 11-point agenda from the Congress’ stage to bring back the lost glory of Punjab. I had a detailed discussion with Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi over the problems concerning the state and their solutions. Our agenda has been adopted ‘as it is’ by the Congress leadership.”

“We, a group of around 2,800 members, have unanimously merged the PPP with the Congress without putting any condition. We will contest the 2017 elections only if told to. Else we will rigorously campaign for the party,” he said.
