Ludhiana: The officials of Municipal Corporation on Wednesday faced the wrath of MLAs from the opposition parties during the meeting of Vigilance and Monitoring Committee (VMC) on urban development for ignoring them while allocating projects and funds for them. The meeting was held at the Circuit House here under the chairmanship of local MP Ravneet Singh Bittu.
The Congress and independent MLAs accused MC officials of ‘favoritism and nepotism.’ They alleged that the officials ignored them during the allocation of projects and funds in their respective areas. The Congress MLAs also charged MC officials with lack of coordination, misuse of funds and showing development projects only on files and power point presentations.
Bittu has formed a committee to look into the issues raised by the MLAs. MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu said that MC officials claimed that they have approached thousands of residents for taking their views and votes on the Smart City project but MLAs were not approached for suggestions. MLAs Surinder Dawar and Balwinder Bains accused MC officials of not sanctioning community toilets under the Swachh Bharat Mission in the wards of councillors belonging to the opposition parties.
