Law and order, farmers suicides, welfare schemes, unemployment, drugs, industry, financial bankruptcy, atrocities on Dalits to be raised in the coming session of Vidhan Sabha
Chandigarh :The Congress party will take up the issues regarding deteriorating law and order in the state, increase in number of farmer suicides due to debt stress, stopping of release of welfare schemes, increase in unemployment, free flow of drugs in the state, closure of industry and financial bankruptcy in the state of Punjab during the upcoming Budget Session of Vidhan Sabha. Disclosing this, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Charanjit Singh Channi said on Tuesday that the Congress legislators will take the government head on in the coming Budget Session. “The Congress will soon approach the Speaker to give opposition MLAs more time to discuss these key issues pertaining to the state.” Channi also demanded that the session should be of minimum of 25 days.
CONGRATULATES SONIA, MANMOHAN
Channi further said that four resolutions were unanimously passed by all legislators in the meeting. The meeting complimented Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on the completion of 10 years of MNREGA scheme as an employment guarantee scheme in the rural areas to eliminate poverty. The meeting berated Punjab government for not releasing funds under this scheme. The Congress demanded the workers of MNREGA should be given permanent employment and the backlog of payments should be immediately cleared by Punjab government.
FINDS FAULT WITH ATTA DAAL SCHEME OF THE GOVERNMENT
The meeting also took strong exception to the inability of the SAD-BJP government in denying the benefits of subsidised Atta-Daal scheme to the people for the last several months in the state and said this had exposed the real face of this government. “The SAD-BJP government should not only distribute cheap flour, but should also start its own scheme to fulfill the poll promises,” said Channi. The meeting also expressed serious concern over the inefficient, insensitive and inhuman approach of the state government in the matter of disbursal of compensation to the families of distressed farmers and farm workers who committed suicide.
The meeting also condemned the continuous deterioration in law and order situation in the state in general and atrocities against Dalits in particular. “Punjab is engulfed by a fear psychosis. The brutal murder of Bheem Taank, a Dalit in Abohar and the delay by the police in arresting the main accused was a reflection of the total politicisation of the police. We demand that the investigation should be handed over to the CBI or any other state agency,” said Channi. MLAs who were present in the meeting included Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Navtej Cheema, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Kuljit Nagra, Tarlochan Soondh, Rakesh Pandey, Randeep Singh, Sham Sunder Arora, Sangat Singh Gilzian, Balbir Sidhu, Guriqbal Kaur, Karan Brar, Ajaib Singh Bhatti, Gurcharan Singh Boparai and Hardial Singh Kamboj.
Capt reiterates ‘one ticket one family’ norm
Patiala :Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Capt Amarinder Singh here on Tuesday said there was no reconstitution of the PCC on the cards. He said he had not recommended any changes but had only accommodated more people. Talking to media persons after addressing a largely attended meeting of MGNREGA workers here, Capt Amarinder Singh said that the issue of ‘one ticket one family’ was important.
“When we criticise Badal for keeping everything to his family, we have to set the right example ourselves,” he said adding he had already put forth the suggestion. PPCC chief criticised Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju for his statement that Punjab was still a disturbed area. He said that this was a highly irresponsible statement on the part of the minister as it conveyed a wrong message that was far from the truth and the ground situation in the state. Capt Amarinder Singh pointed out that Punjab was among the most peaceful states in the country.
“Just because some infiltrators from Pakistan infiltrate into the state and commit some mischief incident does not mean the state is disturbed,” he observed. The PCC president said the minister should have done his homework properly before making such a statement that can have far reaching consequences. He said such statements lead to fear and uncertainty among the investors and they avoid coming to Punjab. Capt Amarinder Singh expressed surprise over silence of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal on the issue. “The government must lodge a strong protest against such statement as it reflects very badly on the State,” he said, adding that the entire Punjab was disturbed as the Akalis have gone mute.
