Sangrur : The SAD (Longowal) is in a fix on a merger or alliance with the Congress or be part of a grand alliance.
The party has been holding consultations with workers and senior leaders, but the leadership could not reach a conclusion so far.
A senior leader of the party said that the leadership has been watching the political scenario in the state and judging its own prospects in the 2017 Assembly elections.
Political pundits say ultimately the SAD (Longowal) will merge with the Congress while some leaders say the party will not prefer to merge with the Congress in view of the Akali background of Surjit Singh Barnala, husband of Surjit Kaur Barnala, SAD (Longowal) chief.
Gaganjeet Singh Barnala, senior vice- president of the party, said that the party president had been authorised to decide about the future plans, including the merger or alliance with the Congress or a grand alliance with like-minded parties. He said that the state Congress president, Capt Amarinder Singh, was best choice for Punjab as of now.
