CHANDIGARH: Accusing the managing committee of trying to grab the land of Khalsa College by establishing a private university, Congress leader Lally Majithia on Wednesday threatened to hold demonstrations and start a signature campaign if the managing committee did not refrain from the move. Addressing mediapersons, Majithia said the matter would be taken to court, if need be.

“The land and finances for the college were donated by both Sikh and non-Sikh families and the government. Around 700 acres of land was consolidated at Kot Khalsa from the proceeds of the land sold which was donated in other parts of Punjab,” he said. “Dr Sohan Singh (an Amritsarbased eye surgeon), in order to secure the properties and assets in the name of Khalsa College, made an agreement with the then DC that lands and assets of Khalsa College could neither be transferred nor sold,” he said.
