CHANDIGARH: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday accused Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal of having double standards on the issue of transfer of Chandigarh to Punjab, saying the SAD-BJP government was not sending Punjab officers on deputation to the union territory (UT) of Chandigarh.

“The Badal government is misleading the people of Punjab on the issue of Chandigarh as it had plainly refused to send Punjab officers to the UT despite a number of vacant posts of the Punjab quota in the UT administration,” AAP Punjab convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur said in a statement here.

Chhotepur said that every five years, before the assembly elections, Badal “tries to grab the votes of Punjabis on the Chandigarh issue while the ground reality is otherwise”. “After the elections, Badal forgets about the promises made during the elections,” he added.

Chhotepur said the Punjab government had recently given in writing that it was not able to send officers on deputation to fill up key vacant posts of the Punjab quota. “The percentage of Punjab cadre officers and employees in UT administration has gone down to even less than 5%,” he added.
