CHANDIGARH: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Capt Amarinder Singh on Sunday sought from the SAD-BJP government a white paper on the state’s fiscal health. He also said the BJP could not shun from its responsibilities by sending feelers of snapping ties with the Akalis after enjoying power in Punjab for nine years.

Referring to deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal’s statement claiming that the state’s fiscal condition was sound, Amarinder urged the junior Badal to clear the air by bringing out a white paper on the issue instead of making statements.

He said the state’s debt had already crossed ` 1.25-lakh crore, which would reach ` 1.4-lakh crore by the time the next government would be formed in 2017. “So much so that the SAD-BJP government is forced to mortgage jails and old-age homes to get more loans for survival,” he alleged.

On reports of BJP intention to part ways with the Akalis, he said the saffron party could not escape the responsibility for being a partner in acts of “omission and commission” during the SAD-BJP regime. He said the BJP was only changing its mind foreseeing “imminent defeat” in the 2017 assembly polls.
