CHANDIGARH: The Aam Admi Party (AAP) on Sunday took a dig at the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for the reported financial packages to chairpersons of boards and corporations despite the state’s poor fiscal health.
“When the state is under heavy debt and the government is unable to give salaries to its employees, it is doling out ` 6 crore annually by liberally giving ministerial ranks to its blueeyed politicians,” AAP Punjab convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur said in a statement here.
“When the state which is overburdened by an army of about three-dozen such politicians, the government gave the mister of state rank to Akali leader Sewa Singh Sekhwan,” Chhotepur said. The reaction came on an HT report published in these columns last Saturday revealing how Badal government was splurging ` 6 crore a year on non-elected leaders.
The AAP leader said the state government had failed to give due compensation to farmers who faced losses due to cotton crop failure.
