Ludhiana : The Congress will organise a two-day conclave of Scheduled Caste leaders and party representatives from across the state in Ludhiana on Monday and Tuesday as part of the 125 birth anniversary celebrations of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar.
The conclave will be attended by all the senior party leaders including the PCC president Capt Amarinder Singh, the chairperson of the Campaign Committee Ambika Soni, general secretary in-charge Shakeel Ahmad, secretary in-charge Harish Chaudhary and others.
The PCC Vice President Dr Amar Singh, who is coordinating the conclave, said the Congress leaders and representatives of the SCs will deliberate and discuss the relevance of Dr Ambedkar’s ideology in today’s context and various issues being faced by the SCs in Punjab.
They will also come up with suggestions and solutions which will be incorporated in a declaration that will be released at the conclusion of the conclave on February 16 jointly by all the senior leaders. The “declaration” will subsequently be submitted to the Manifesto Committee later for its consideration and inclusion in the party manifesto.
Dr Singh pointed out, Punjab has the largest percentage of the SC population in the country. He said, the Congress has special relationship with the SCs beginning with Dr Ambedkar. He also referred to various incidents of discrimination and atrocities against the SCs in Punjab which will also come up for discussion.
