He was inactive in politics for more than a year since quitting the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in 2014.
After coming into the Akali fold in 2009, Hans lost the parliamentary election that year from Jalandhar reserved constituency but kept his place as party vice-president. In December 2014, he left the party when it fielded Pawan Kumar Tinu from Jalandhar.
“I was trapped into the (Shiromani) Akali Dal by Badal (Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal) Saab, who came to my house. I couldn’t say no,” said Hans, who won Padma Shri and Punjab Rattan awards during Amarinder’s tenure as CM. “People made to join the SAD are later sidelined, like I was,” he added.
The artiste who also sings for films says that once into politics, now he can’t stay away from it for too long. “The scenario building up in the state has forced me to come to the Congress,” he said.
Amarinder said Hans had come into his party by the reference of legislator Kewal Dhillon.
