Patiala : The Congress high command is likely to release the first list of candidates for the 2017 Assembly elections by July or August.

Chairperson of the party’s campaign committee for the 2017 elections Ambika Soni today said the party was all set for the challenge. “We will soon hold meetings in Delhi to discuss probable candidates. Hopefully, the first list of candidates will be out by July or August followed by the second list,” she said, adding that she was not in the race for another Rajya Sabha term.

PPCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh said his decision of “one family, one ticket” for the 2017 poll would be binding on all state leaders so that “new faces can be given a chance”.

The leaders were addressing a meeting of workers organised by senior party leader and Patiala Rural MLA Brahm Mohindra at Bhadson.

Amarinder, when asked about Mohindra’s candidature from Patiala (Rural), said he (Brahm) was a trusted Congress leader who had contested eight times. There was no doubt about him getting the ticket, he said.

Chandigarh: Amarinder today launched the "Jago Punjab" campaign from his residence here. The volunteers would go door-to-door to listen to the people's issue and apprise the state leadership of the same. On the similar lines, a team of ex-servicemen was being prepared for touring the entire state.

Beginning from 2,000 enrolments, the campaign, being spearheaded by Gobind Khatra and Brinder Dhillon and activists of the NSUI and Youth Congress, the party plans to enroll volunteers to cover all 117 constituencies in the run up to the 2017 Assembly elections. A short video invoking Punjabis to fight against the ills afflicting the state would be shown to the masses under the campaign.
