Patiala : Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh has said that after the menace of drug addiction among youth, damage to standing crops because of pesticides, Punjab now faced another danger from the Aam Aadmi Party.
Addressing a Congress workers’ meeting here on Sunday, he announced that only he can set the Badals right and hold them accountable for all their sins of omission and commission during last two terms, like he did during his earlier tenure between 2002 and 2007 by putting them behind the bars.
“They could never have thought even in their wildest dreams that somebody would put them behind the bars and I did it,” he said addressing the meeting organised by senior party leader and Patiala Rural MLA Brahm Mohindra.
“Not only did I jail the Badals for corruption but I also put the then Punjab Public Service Commission Chairman Ravi Sidhu also in jail who was later convicted and sentenced to several years of jail,” he said while reiterating his resolve to punish the corrupt after Congress forms the government in Punjab in 2017.
He said Punjab needs an experienced and a decisive leadership which has proved credentials beyond doubt and is rooted in Punjab.
“We need someone whose heart and soul lives in Punjab and who can actually feel the pain like one among us and not someone from some other place,” he said while asking people to beware of the misleading promises of the Aam Aadmi Party and its Chief Ministerial aspirant from Haryana Arvind Kejriwal.
He warned that while the Badals have become the epitome of corruption, Kejriwal has turned out to be an example of incompetence and failure and a master in conceiving and contriving excuses to hide his failures.
He said like Badals had failed Punjab, Kejriwal had failed Delhi and like every Punjabi wanted to get rid of the Badals, everyone in Delhi was ruing his fate to have Kejriwal as their Chief Minister comparing his chaotic one year with the glorious 15 years of Sheila Dikshit.
He reiterated his resolve to provide one job in each family in Punjab so that each family has an assured income to sustain itself. Besides, he added, he will ensure that the farming and agriculture was a ruminative and rewarding avocation and not the one that drives people to despair and suicide. “I want to see the smile back on every Punjabi’s face including that of the prosperous farmers,” he said amidst a lot of cheer and applause.
Earlier, Brahm Mohindra welcomed Capt Amarinder Singh to the constituency saying he was the hope of Punjab.
