Ludhiana : A major security lapse was took place on Monday when a group of protesters pelted stones and shoes on the cavalcade of Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal outside a resort on the busy Ludhiana-Ferozepur highway near Mullanpur, 15-kilometer from Ludhiana. In the attack, Kejriwal escaped unhurt but the front windowpane of the car in which he was travelling got damaged.
After a struggle with protesters, the cops managed to provide a safe route to the cavalcade of Kejriwal. Later, the Ludhiana Rural Police registered a case against unidentified attackers under Sections 336 and 427 of IPC. After the attack, Kejriwal cut short his Punjab tour and cancelled his visit to Patiala district and left for Delhi a few hours after the attack not before announcing his visit to Punjab in May. Kejriwal had come to attend a meeting of industrialists at a resort. Various groups of protesters were also present at the entrance of the resort for ‘greeting’ Kejriwal with black flags and posters saying ‘Kejriwal Go Back.’ Sensing the situation, the police diverted the route of the cavalcade and the Delhi CM made his entry through the back door of the resort. The protesters burnt an effigy of Kejriwal and continued their protest.
Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ludhiana Rural Ravcharan Singh Brar said that no complaint was registered but a case has been registered under relevant sections of IPC. “We will investigate the matter and try to identify the attackers who attacked the cavalcade of the Delhi CM,” he added.
