Ferozepur : PPCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh today launched ‘Drug Free Punjab’ campaign in the presence of international wrestler Dalip Singh Rana alias Khali during an event organised by Congress MLA Parminder Singh Pinki at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium here today.

The former CM administered an oath to thousands of youths exhorting them to never touch drugs and also ensure that none of their friends or relatives did the same.

Addressing the youth in the jam packed stadium, Capt reiterated his promise to eradicate the drug problem within four weeks of assuming charge, if voted back to power.

The main problem here was synthetic drugs, popularly known as ‘chitta’ in local parlance, which kills the addicts within a few years. The production and trade of such drugs was being controlled by the Akalis and he would ensure they are held accountable for the loss of thousands of innocent lives, he added.

“The Akalis have destroyed an entire generation and I promise that I will not spare them for this crime,” he reiterated in his belligerent style amidst cheers and applause from the crowd. Pinki thanked Amarinder for starting the campaign on the occasion.

Many former policemen joined the Congress in presence of the former CM who promised to constitute a welfare board for retired police officials, NGOs and jawans when the Congress comes back to power.

Later, while talking to mediapersons at residence of Guruharsahai MLA Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi, Capt said that the Congress will announce the candidates for the 2017 Vidhan Sabha elections in July this year. He said that in the Jaipur session, the party had taken a decision that the tickets should be announced in advance to provide sufficient time to the candidates for campaigning.

Capt dismissed the Aam Aadmi Party saying that Kejriwal had to cut short his visit due to the lukewarm response from the people.

In a query on the Akalis, he said that the latter may not cross the double figure mark this time and this would be their worst performance ever. That is the reason they have stopped giving any attention to governance”, he added.

Manohar Singh Mujaidia, son of late Manga Singh Mujaidia, an ex-MLA alongwith several others joined the party at Sodhi’s residence.
