Chandigarh : The Congress party will move two adjournment motions in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha tomorrow on the issues of atrocities on Dalits and sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib.
Stating this in a release here today, Charanjit Singh Channi, Leader of the Opposition, alleged that the state government had failed to protect rights of Dalits in the state and incidents of atrocities on Dalits were rising day by day.
He said the government’s failure was evident from the fact that the main accused in the Abohar Dalit murder case, Akali leader Shiv Lal Doda, was not named in the challan presented by the police.
Channi said the Congress wanted a discussion on the issue because the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) by the government to investigate the matter was an eyewash aimed at shielding the real culprits. Channi also demanded a CBI inquiry into the murder case.
He said incidents of desecration of Guru Granth Sahib were increasing by the day and the government had done nothing to stop them. He said the party would press for a discussion on the two issues in the Assembly.
